Originally from Western Belize, Carlos arrived at Caves Branch as a very young man- interested in improving himself both mentally and educationally. He joined the team in 2000 and quickly became a favorite with his easy smile and hilarious jokes.
He became a tour guide by accident. At the age of 17 he enrolled in the Center for Employment Training in San Ignacio, Belize and of the three trade courses offered he was eliminated from 2 of them and Tour Guiding was the only course he was able to take. His internship was at Duplooy’s Jungle Lodge and following his completion of the training, he was employed as a Junior Tour Guide in Training at Caves Branch Jungle Lodge. 19 years later, Carlos has become a mature, fun-loving, easy going and trusted employed. His value to the company is more than gold.
Under his leadership, the team of well-trained tour guides enjoy the stability and company trust that they deserve. As the only team of trained tour guides of their kind, their rescue abilities and expertise are recognized country-wide. Carlos enjoys hunting game meat, jungle hikes and is passionate about his country and its environment.
Certifications include: Tourism & Hospitality; Wilderness First Responder; Advanced Cave Rescue; High Angle Rescue; Remote Duty Medic and Ancient Maya Civilization Training- just to name some of the top qualifications.
In 2018, Carlos won the tour guide of the year award by the Belize Tourism Board at their 16th National Tourism Awards.
