Ian Anderson was the first to offer cave tubing as a tour in Belize. This tour is only offered when the water is high and it’s a tour that the whole family can enjoy. It is safe for children 8 years and older. It’s not a very physically challenging tour but the experience is what makes it worthwhile. It is Belize’s longest and most spectacular “River of Caves” cave tubing float because it is over 7 miles underground.
While paddling through the clear water to the entrance of the dark cave, there’s a small rush because you don’t know what is in the darkness that you are about to enter. Then, just as you start to enter you turn on your headlamps and then look into the water and you can’t see a thing! You will float past side “windows” that filter the jungle light through the mist as you swirl round and round.
While you are guided through various chambers of this huge cave system there is so much to see – stalagmites, stalactites, and underground waterfalls – and then you enter one of the spiritual centers of the ancient Maya – the crystal cathedral. This is a beautiful crystal cavern; massive sparkling flowstones, perhaps some carvings and even more when you are fully inside. The River of caves tour is truly a spectacular experience; see a short video below uploaded by some of our previous guests. Click here to read their story about their Belize cave tubing experience.
