An adventure in Belize is always a very exciting and fun way to spend your vacation. However, you want to make sure that you are safe and comfortable. When talking about the actual safeness of the adventures – the guides have that under control. You want to ensure that your feet are safe, and for that we need you to choose the right type of shoes for your adventure to minimize risks of sprains, pain and other injuries that you can get if you do not have the right shoe.
Here are some pointers to consider when choosing a shoe for your Adventures:
- Support & Stability when hiking especially for ankles.
- Lightweight shoes for longer distances. It helps you to keep moving faster.
- Ventilation & breathability especially in warm weather to help keep feet dry.
- Grip & Traction in all terrains: mud, dirt, sand, rocky, water etc.
- Lacing system – elastic bands, velcro, no laces and traditional laces whichever you prefer.
- Integrated elastic sock – this can be useful to keep dirt and debris out
- Cushioned – a comfortable shoe to brace the impact when hiking.
- Easy to dry – you may have tours in water and hiking the day after.
- Budget – decide how much you would like to spend before shopping.
Be sure to purchase shoes at the end of the day when your feet are tired and a little swollen. This helps you to get a more accurate and comfortable fit. Remember that the shape of the feet varies for women and men. Female shoes will fit more comfortably on a female than men’s shoes because they are made to fit the contours of a woman’s foot.
Never forget to break in your adventure shoes little by little before using them for a prolonged amount of time. This will help the shoe to fit the form of your feet and feel softer on the inside. Remember to have blister bandages handy if you have sensitive feet. Sometimes it is good to put on thin ones just to make sure you don’t get a blister. Always have a pair of comfy flip flops around when going on your Belize Adventure tours. You may want to ventilate your feet before plunging into water or simply rest your feet from being covered all day. This is also healthier – our feet need to breathe too! 🙂
Good luck finding a shoe that is right for you.
