It's now easier to get to Belize than ever. Starting on March 11, 2017, Southwest Airlines will be operating a non-stop flight from Denver's International Airport (DIA) to Belize City (BZE). Currently, the flights are only scheduled to run through April 22, 2017, but may be extended if they prove to be popular. The new weekly Denver-Belize route will depart the United States at 10:30 AM every Saturday and will arrive in Belize in four hours and 20 minutes.
Southwest currently operates non-stop flights to Belize from Houston's Hobby Airport (HOU) although a new route from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL) in Florida is scheduled to start on June 4, 2017. Long known for its friendly, low-cost domestic service, Southwest has recently been making a strong push to enter more international markets, including the two new routes from Denver and Fort Lauderdale to Belize.
Even without a direct connection, interest in Belize has been experiencing a sharp rise in recent years. In 2016, more than 13,000 people flew from Denver to Belize, a 50% increase from just three years earlier. A spokesperson for the Denver airport noted that 25% of all travel between Denver and Belize occurs in March and April, and the new non-stop route from Southwest is expected to drive these numbers even higher.
