Enjoy the pride of Belize at the National Agriculture & Trade Show

All the Fun of a State Fair in Belmopan

Located far in the west of the country, Belmopan often gets overlooked by more popular destinations such as San Ignacio, Placencia, and Ambergris Caye. But one of Belize's most popular and exciting activities takes place in Belmopan every year, the National Agriculture and Trade Show.

Similar to the state fairs that Americans know and love, the Belize National Agriculture and Trade Show is a combination of livestock displays, agricultural products, live music, mechanical bull rides, delicious food, and exciting activities like a beauty pageant, motorcross show, and canoe race. This year, the National Agriculture and Trade Show will feature a special presentation for Farmer of the Year in three categories, best male farmer, best female farmer, and best junior farmer.

Held every year since 1970, the National Agriculture and Trade Show is a chance for Belizeans to celebrate their country's rich agricultural heritage and local manufacturers. Over 10,000 visitors are expected to attend this year's fair that will take place from April 28-30, 2017, at the national fairgrounds just outside of Belmopan in Belize's western Cayo District. The theme for the 2017 National Agriculture and Trade Show is "Let's Get Growing."

Although the National Agriculture and Trade Show has a reputation for rowdy fun, the government has divided the fairgrounds into three zones to ensure that everyone has a good time. Zone 1 is a combination agricultural display and summer festival with plenty of activities suitable for the whole family. Zone 2 includes live music and a chance to sample some of Belize's finest wares, including a delectable assortment of local rums, better suited for adult fun. All of Zone 1 is entirely alcohol-free while Zone 2 has a special Kids' Zone that is also alcohol-free.

Whether you want to watch young farmers display their prize livestock, marvel at gigantic ears of corn, dance to live music, enjoy rides and games, or simply want to learn more about all of the amazing products produced in Belize, the National Agriculture and Trade Show is one of the most exciting events of the year.

One of the best places to stay to enjoy all the fun of the National Agriculture and Trade Show is the Caves Branch Lodge. Located just a few minutes' away from the fairgrounds, the Caves Branch Lodge features luxury tree houses and special nature tours, including nighttime treks through the jungle. Caves Branch Lodge specializes in adventure activities, including cave tubing, bird watching, caving, and learning more about the flora and fauna of Belize.
