Best Beaches in Belize

Best Beaches in Belize to Visit
With nearly 450 offshore islands and more than 240 miles of coastline, it’s no surprise that Belize is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The lush interior combined with natural geological features have resulted in Belize being blessed with beautiful, sandy white beaches that simply have to be seen to be believed.

Here are some of the best beaches in Belize to visit:

Placencia Beaches

With approximately 16 miles of coastline on the Caribbean, Placencia is renowned for having some of the most beautiful beaches in a country with many contenders for that title. Placencia has maintained its laid-back, idyllic charm, scarcely changed since the days when it was home to a few hundred fishing families.

Placencia is located on the southeastern coast of mainland Belize and can be reached from Belize City by car (around 3 hours) or by plane (around 30 minutes).

Hopkins Beaches

This quiet village located near where the Sittee River meets the Caribbean in southeastern Belize is regularly voted as the friendliest village in the country. The predominately Garifuna community lives on two sides of a large bay, enjoying fantastic views of the water as well as close access to nearby lagoons and tributaries.

Hopkins is located on the Belize mainland about a one-hour drive from Placencia or three hours by car from Belize City. The nearest airport is in Dangriga, about a 20-minute drive away.

Caye Caulker Beaches

Still possessing its laidback charm that made this island a popular choice for backpackers, Caye Caulker is a great introduction to the Belize Barrier Reef. The island is just a short distance from Ambergris Caye by boat or from Belize City by boat or air (around 15 minutes’ flying time).

Ambergris Caye Beaches

Although Ambergris Caye is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, it is still predominately an untouched landscape of wetlands, bird habitats, and white sandy beaches

Ambergris Caye can be reached from Belize City by air (around 15 minutes) or by water taxi (around one hour and 20 minutes).

Belize Offshore Island Beaches

There are hundreds of gorgeous beaches on Belize‘s offshore islands, including:

The Silk Cayes – These three islands are located inside their own national park. Situated in one of the most pristine and beautiful areas of the outer reef, the beaches on Silk Caye are simply stunning.

Laughing Bird Caye – One of the smallest yet most beautiful national parks in the country, Laughing Bird Caye is a small island named after the laughing gull that once flocked here in large numbers.

If you’ve ever closed your eyes and imagined the ultimate tropical island perfect for filming your own castaway movie, the Silk Cayes and Laughing Bird Caye are exactly what you’re picturing in your mind.

These islands are protected marine reserves and have no overnight lodging or airfields. The only access to them is by boat from the mainland, a trip that lasts around 40-60 minutes.

Caves Branch Lodge offers jungle and beach vacations so that travelers can experience the best of Belize.
