Things to do in Belize

While on site guests can enjoy our new swimming pool and hot tub situated next to the main lodge building and swimming in the Caves Branch River, depending on the season. What once was our main parking lot has been converted to two swimming pools complete with waterfalls and a hot tub. This is one of the more open areas at Caves Branch and offers guests the opportunity to relax and get some sun surrounded by lush and colorful tropical landscaping.

The upper pool and hot tub are for lounging while the lower pool is set aside more for swimming. Generally quiet during the day, it is a great time to rest, relax and read while sharing the pool area with a variety of bird life. Around 3:00 pm the pool area can fill up, particularly the hot tub and becomes the social center for our guests to exchange stories while rejuvenating their bodies, sometimes mending sore muscles not often enough used at home.

In the mornings, guests can enjoy hiking trips where avid bird watchers can identify as many as 165 species of birds along our 1 km entrance that passes through 3 distinctive bird habitats. Butterflies and dragonflies fill the canopy during the day and after dark, the sounds of the night come alive.

The Caves Branch River runs right beside the lodge and provides us with a beautiful back drop. It is a very dynamic river where water levels can change as much as 15 or 20 feet overnight. There is also a period from around the middle of March to the end of May where the river mostly dries up. There is easy access to the river at several points along our banks and guests can enjoy swimming or walking along the river.

The Belize Blue Hole National Park is a pleasant half mile walk from Caves Branch lodge. The Blue Hole itself is a cenote caused when the roof of an underground cave collapsed. You can enjoy the calmness of the area and a refreshing swim in the crystal blue water. There is also a nature trail in the park that includes St. Herman’s Cave and a look-out tower with a nice view of the Caves Branch valley. In 2014 this natural attraction received the Tripadvisor award for excellence!

Our recreation center has a couple of ping pong tables, mini-basketball and shuffle board. It is a nice distraction on days off from trips and a great place for families and kids who can never have enough things to do.

All guests are invited to take advantage of the complimentary tours of our onsite Botanical Garden. Guided tours are available from 9am to 4pm daily and you are more than welcome to go through the garden and not only enjoy the marked plants/ foliage, but learn on your own and enjoy the lovely flowers that bloom and add color to our rainforest surroundings.

Caves Branch Cheese House is still functional however our complimentary cheese tasting has been discontinued until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances. Please feel free however to ask about our cheeses- we can provided as much information on this for you during your stay.
